The Recovery Group deeply values anonymity, which is referred
to in Traditions Eleven and Twelve. Anonymity is a tool that
guarantees that we will place principles before personalities.
Because of anonymity, each of us is safe from gossip in our
loops and meetings and, at the same time, can express ourselves
freely and openly with those who share our common disease of
compulsive eating.
No one has the right to make our membership in either OA or
The Recovery Group known within our community ... only we
can do that. Anonymity at the level of
press, radio, films and television means that we never allow our
faces or last names to be used once we identify ourselves as OA
members. This protects both the individual and the Fellowship.
Within The Recovery Group and the OA Fellowship, we must always
hold what we share with another OA member in confidence. We must
respect that always. In addition, what and who we see and hear at
meetings should always remain there.
Anonymity must not be
used to limit our effectiveness within the Fellowship. It is not a
break of anonymity to use our full names within our group or OA
service bodies. Also, it is not a break of anonymity to enlist
Twelfth-Step help for group members in trouble, provided we refrain
from discussing specific personal information.
It is important to note that the Recovery Group nor OA has stars
or VIPs. Because of the nature of the medium we use for recovery
purposes and the vastness of our organization on the Internet, we
must have Administrators and others who tend to the daily tasks
just as OA has WSO staff members who do the same. Nevertheless,
we all come together simply as compulsive eaters.
If you would like to join our organization or give service to others
via The Recovery Group, please contact TRGAdm@TheRecoveryGroup.org.
We would love to have you join us.
