"Lack of power was our dilemma"
". . . even though it was impossible for any of us to fully define or comprehend that Power, which is God."
"Many of us have been so touchy that even casual reference to spiritual things made us bristle with antagonism."
"When many hundreds of people are able to say that the consciousness of the Presence of God is today the most important fact in their lives, they present a powerful reason why one should have faith."

This chapter has meant a lot to my recovery. I came to OA believing in a sort of Crisis Center God who could be called on in emergencies but probably wouldn't come through for me anyway. I had given up organized religion in college because of what I perceived to be the hypocrisy of its practitioners.
However, that did not stop me from trying to find some universal truths or principles by which to live. I taught comparative religion units in high school classes. I pondered the mysteries of the east and the west. But nothing seemed to fill the yawning emptiness I felt.
My first stint in this program I was still making myself my HP. I was in control of my food. I was in control of my weight loss, and I was so successful that I decided I was cured and left.
My second stint was marred by a dreadful occurance. My father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At the time I was dry sober and using OA for my only 12 Step Program. I recognized the necessity of dealing with his death without drinking or overeating or losing my sanity. Thus, I was forced to find a Higher Power and turn my father's life and death over to It.
Thank you all for being there.
THE QUESTIONS
2. What doubts and prejudices did you have regarding the word, "God?"
3. What is your conception of God today?
4. What spiritual concepts have you accepted that were previously out of reach?
It is the sharing of our collective experience, strength, hope and wisdom inspired by our reading of this Big Book together that will make a difference in our recovery. *It would be helpful to you as you read along to substitute the word food for alcohol and compulsive eater for alcoholic. I hope all of you will join us on our journey through the Big Book.
Thank you all for being part of this group!
Love in recovery,
Jeanne,

"This Power has in each case accomplished the miraculous, the humanly impossible."
". . . in the face of the total failure of their human resources. . ."
". . . we had to fearlessly face the proposition that either God is everything else He is nothing."
"We found the Great Reality deep down within us. In the last analysis it is only there that He may be found."

It has been said that there are no coincidences, only God not signing his
handiwork. Well, one more time, I have been given the blessing of some
unsigned handiwork. When I sent out the lead last week I was not in a good
place about this program. I have been in and out, abstinent and not
abstinent, for years. I had reached despair. I wasn't losing weight and my
food was getting bad.
Well, reading and discussing this chapter plus a reading we discussed in the
ABSTINENCE book in my meeting Saturday helped me to find the spiritual aspect
of abstinence. One more time I have come to believe that there is in fact a
Great Reality. That Reality is the spiritual solution I have for my
overeating.
This morning I put on a pair of pants which had been tight, and they were
loose. Just when I was ready to throw in the towel my Higher Power has saved
my fanny. My program for today is to ask my Higher Power to guide me to eat
the healthy and nutritious foods which my body deserves.
Thank you all for being there.
Hi everyone. My name is Jeanne and I'm the leader for the month of May.
