The CANCER Twelve Step support group is a place where those of us with compulsive behaviors towards food and who have been diagnosed with cancer can meet with others who suffer from the same diseases and share our experience, strength and hope with each other. Here you are accepted and understood and loved exactly the way you are. You will meet a lot of "strangers" here to begin with, but you will find out that these "strangers" quickly become some of the best friends you will encounter.
An increase in the risk of cancer is one of the consequences of obesity. The predominant cancers associated with obesity have a hormonal base and include breast, prostate, endometrium, colon and gallbladder cancers. As the basis for understanding the problem of obesity has advanced, a number of new ideas have emerged about the relationship of obesity to cancer. But the bottom line is that the risk of cancer increases as body weight rises.
While it is not our mission to debate cause and effect of the diseases of compulsive eating and cancer, we do have the mission of carrying the message of the 12 Steps to COEs. If a by-product of compulsive eating are diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart problems, then our mission becomes even more important.
If you are driven by compulsive eating even knowing the harm that it will cause in regards to additional diseases, this support group is where you will find others dealing with the same problem. The members of our Cancer Loop are not only dealing with diabetes but are in different stages of recovery from compulsive overeating and food addictions.
A newcomer recently diagnosed with cancer, baffled by the control food has over their decisions, can share their frustrations and receive encouragement from other members of the loop. Individuals who have been in recovery both from cancer and compulsive overeating can share their Experience, Strength, Hope and this will be helpful to all.
We urge members of this list to respect the anonymity of its users. What you read here, let it stay here. We ask that you do not pass on messages without first getting the permission of the sender.
