is Perseverance.
The Tenth Step Prayer:
I pray I may continue: To grow in understanding and effectiveness; to
take daily spot check inventories of my self; to correct mistakes when I
make them; to take responsibility for my actions; to be ever aware of my
negative and self-defeating attitudes and behaviors; to keep my
willfulness in check; to always remember I need Your help; to keep love
and tolerance of others as my code; and to continue in daily prayer how
I can best serve You, My Higher Power.
The Big Book says we continue to take personal inventory and continue
to set right any new mistakes as we go along. We vigorously commenced
this way of living as we cleaned up the past. We have entered the world
of Spirit. Our next function is to grow in understanding and
effectiveness. This is not an overnight matter. It should continue for
our lifetime. Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment,
and fear. When these crop us, we ask God at once to remove them. We
discuss then with someone immediately and make amends quickly if we have
harmed anyone. Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we can
help.
Love and Tolerance of others is our code.
And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone even alcohol (food).
For by this time sanity will have returned. We will seldom be interested
in liquor (food). If tempted, we recoil from it as from a hot flame. We
react sanely and normally, and we will find that this has happened
automatically. We will see that our attitude toward liquor (food) has
been given us without any thought or effort on our part. It just comes!
This is the miracle of it.
Repetition is the only form of permanence that nature can achieve.
Now for the assignment for this week.
Hello, my name is Audrey and I am Step Leader for Step Ten of the WTS
Step Study. I have reviewed the Tenth Step for the past three years. We
had tremendous leaders on this step. I pray that in some small way I can
be of some help to you. I use the name "TheMiracle2" for the Big Book
study and WTS. Because truly this has happened in my life. I will have
been in OA two years this January of 2000. Have been abstinent for a
year now. There were a few minor slips but no compulsive eating now for
over a year. It just comes! This is the miracle of it. This I can
testify to.

1. If we are to experience
permanent recovery from compulsive eating, what do we need to do?
2. The first nine steps of our program gave us a new beginning, laid
patterns for us to follow in the future. What does Step Ten call for?
3. Tell us what the word perseverance means and how it is associated
with our recovery and this step?
4. In the AA 12 & 12, it talks of an emotional hangover. The direct
results of yesterday's and sometimes today's excess of negative
emotions. List some of these negative emotions and explain how they
affect your recovery.
5. One last question for this week, if we have these negative
emotions when are we to take care of them and why?

We are human. We make mistakes. Step 10 clearly tells us what to do
when we are wrong: admit it. This keeps us honest. When we admit the
truth about ourselves things come into focus. At the end of each day we
ask ourselves, "How did my day go?" As we think about our day, we bring
order to our life. When we defend ourselves or blame others, it is
called denial. Denial is bad for 2 reasons. First it keeps us from
learning from our mistakes, so we keep making them. Second, we don't
listen to others, so we close off ourselves and become
lonely.

2. For years we tried going it alone. I have learned through working
these steps what healing and help there is in a loving connection with
our Higher Power and others who shared our lives. How do we continue to
strengthen these connections?

our 10th step inventory. C. A daily reviewing our emotions and behavior
of the past 24 hours. What distinguished one from
another?

Hello, my name is Audrey and I am a recovering compulsive overeater.
I am your leader this month of October for Step 10.
Anger, resentment, jealousy, envy, as Bill W. states in the Big Book,
"are dubious luxuries of normal men." For me, a compulsive overeater,
they are poison. With defects unattended, the insanity of compulsive
overeating returns and that is death, spiritually and emotionally, if
not physically.

Hello, my name is Audrey and I am a COE and your Step 10 leader for
the month of October.
It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action and rest on
our laurels. We are headed for trouble if we do. Food is a subtle foe.
We are not cured of compulsive overeating. What we have is a daily
reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.
Everyday is a day when we must carry the vision of God's will into all
of our activities.

Power greater than ourselves has become a part of us. What are some
actions that you take daily that have given you a sane and satisfying
way of life?
5. We have been forced to adapt to this new way of coping with life
in order to recover from compulsive eating. Can you now say you are

Hello, my name is Audrey and I am a COE and your leader for Step 10
during October. This is the last week and I have enclosed something
that a dear friend sent me several months ago. It has made me look at
the different things that have happened in my daily life. And how I
have reacted to them. I hope you print this out and save it. To be
used as needed. I have learned a lot in this leading of step 10. You
may answer the questions and send them back to loop or just use this
when you need too.

Selfishness, self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our
troubles. Driven by a hundred-forms of fear, self-delusion,
self-seeking, and self-pity, we step on the toes of our fellows and they
retaliate. Sometimes they hurt us, seemingly without provocation, but
we invariably find that at some time in the past we have made decisions
based on self which later placed us in a position to be hurt.
So our troubles, we think, are basically of our own making. They
arise out of ourselves, and the alcoholic is an extreme example of
self-will run riot, though he usually doesn't think so. Above
everything, we alcoholics must be rid of this selfishness (p. 62,
Alcoholics Anonymous).
INCIDENT (limited to one sentence):
1. HOW WAS I SELFISH (i.e., thinking only of myself, or not putting
myself in someone else's position)?
2. HOW WAS I RESENTFUL (and what was the basis of this resentment)?
3. HOW WAS I AFRAID (How does this demonstrate a lack of faith,
misplaced faith, or faith in a negative outcome)?
4. HOW WAS I DISHONEST (by commission or omission)?
5. HOW DID I DEMAND TO CONTROL ("Do it my way")?
6. HOW DID I DEMAND TO BE RIGHT ("I told you so!")?
7. HOW DID I DEMAND TO BE A VICTIM ("Poor me!")?
8. HOW WAS I DEFIANT ("Don't confuse me with the facts, I've made up
my mind!")?
9. HOW WAS I IN DENIAL ("I don't care, I want it my way!")
10. WHO DID I HURT AND HOW DID I HURT THEM (i.e., who was affected as
a result of my action or inaction)?
11. HOW CAN I REPAIR THE DAMAGE (i.e., how can I put right what I've
put wrong)?
12. WHAT COULD I HAVE DONE BETTER (i.e., what actions could I have
taken to improve the situation)?
